ConvertKit (rebranded as Kit in 2024) is email marketing software built specifically for creators, bloggers, podcasters, and course sellers. While tools like Mailchimp target broad small-business audiences, ConvertKit was designed from the ground up around the creator economy — and that focus shows in every feature.
The core strength of ConvertKit is its subscriber-centric model. Instead of tracking "list members," ConvertKit tracks subscribers as individuals with tags and segments that follow them across your entire account. When someone buys a product, they get a tag. When they click a specific link, they get another. This tagging system lets you send hyper-targeted broadcasts without managing complex list overlaps.
ConvertKit's automation builder (called "Visual Automations") is straightforward compared to ActiveCampaign but powerful enough for most creator workflows. You can set up a new subscriber sequence, deliver a lead magnet, wait a number of days, then branch based on whether the subscriber clicked or didn't click — all in a drag-and-drop canvas.
The landing page and form builder is a standout feature. ConvertKit provides ready-made, conversion-optimized landing pages for lead magnets, waitlists, and opt-ins — complete with custom domain hosting. For creators who don't have a website yet, ConvertKit can serve as their entire digital storefront.
ConvertKit Commerce lets creators sell digital products, subscriptions, and tip jars directly through ConvertKit — no Stripe integration required. This makes ConvertKit a genuinely all-in-one platform for content creators who want to monetize their audience.
The free plan supports up to 10,000 subscribers but limits automations. The Creator plan unlocks the full automation suite, and Creator Pro adds advanced reporting, subscriber scoring, and newsletter referral systems.
